BOE Subcommittee Information

Community residents can participate in planning the future direction of the Elwood School District.  If you are interested in serving on any of the following Districtwide committees and Board of Education subcommittees, please complete the form below

Curriculum : This subcommittee will be charged with making recommendations to the Board of Education on a wide range of topics regarding K-12 curriculum and instruction. In addition to community residents, the members of the committee will include district administrators. The Elementary and Secondary Instructional Councils, comprised of administrators and lead teachers, will support and contribute to the work of this subcommittee.

Public Relations : This subcommittee will be charged with making recommendations to the Board of Education regarding ways to improve two-way communication and more actively involve community support.

Policy : This subcommittee will be charged with making recommendations to the Board of Education relative to the alignment of existing policies with current practice. In addition, there will be a review of local policies that were not included in the NYSSBA policy manual adopted by the Elwood Public Schools.

Audit Committee : This committee's primary task is to ensure that audit findings and other accountability issues receive adequate oversight. This subcommittee fulfills the second item in the New York State Comptroller's Five-Point Plan to increase financial accountability for schools. The Five-Point Plan requires audit committees for school districts to ensure that audit findings and other accountability issues receive adequate oversight. The audit committee's role is ultimately advisory, and responsibility for auditor selection and reviewing and approving the financial statements rests with the full school board. The Schools Financial Accountability Coalition developed explicit roles and duties for the committee which include:

• Oversight of internal and external audit work.

• Oversight of the internal and external auditor selection process.

• Review of district financial statements before presentation to the Board.

• Monitoring of any district corrective action plan.

Citizens Finance / Budget Advisory : The goal of the CF/BAC is to provide comprehensive analysis of existing programs and accurate projections of the true cost associated with implementing the educational goals and objectives for the Elwood Union Free School District.

Safety : The Elwood District is committed to promoting safe and healthy learning environments where students are secure in their pursuit of educational success. This subcommittee will be charged with addressing issues of school safety and will make recommendations to the Board of Education relative to the development and implementation of district-wide safety plans in all buildings.

Facilities and Finance : This subcommittee will be charged with making recommendations to keep all buildings and grounds of the Elwood UFSD in good repair and maintained within a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and functionality to foster an outstanding educational environment for our students and staff. The subcommittee will work collaboratively to address all pertinent issues and make reports and recommendations to the Board of Education and Superintendent. In addition, this subcommittee will be charged with making recommendations to the Board of Education relative to the projected needs of facilities and the corresponding costs associated with maintaining the high quality learning environments and athletic facilities that currently exist.

TechnologyThe Elwood BOE Technology subcommittee is charged with making recommendations to the Board of Education relative to the use of administrative and instructional technology. Consideration will be given to the present and future needs along with the corresponding costs to maintain flexible, 21st century learning environments and efficient administrative technology. 

Health and Nutrition : This subcommittee will be charged with making recommendations to the Board of Education relative to compliance with NYSED requirements regarding food and nutrition in our schools.
