(Elwood Special Education Parent Teacher Association)
Are you looking for an opportunity to meet other families with children who have special needs or have similar circumstances? Consider becoming a member of Elwood SEPTA.
We work with families, teachers, and administrators to create a community that values and respects each student's learning abilities to ensure that all our children receive an education that allows them to reach their full potential. Elwood SEPTA provides families with an organizational structure, resources, and the opportunity to be a collective voice for our children. Furthermore , it offers us the opportunity to exchange experiences and ideas with other parents - maybe one who has been down a similar path.
We function like other PTAs; however, our focus is on issues dealing with our children with special needs and offer support to families in all four buildings in our district. Our general meetings present guest speakers who discuss multiple topics related to our children. Our roundtable/support meetings are just for parents and caregivers. They offer a safe and confidential setting allowing us to share experiences, compare information about specialists, therapies, diets, and strategies concerning our children and the school district. On occasion, we also sponsor workshops on topics that can help us better understand all aspects of the many diagnoses that pertain to our children.
However, we need your help. You can support Elwood SEPTA each year by becoming a member, supporting the fundraisers we manage throughout the school year; or, perhaps you would like to volunteer to help organize these events. We are always looking for parents/caregivers to help us continue to advocate for our children.
We continually search for supportive information, programs, workshops, lectures, and activities for our children locally and throughout Long Island and post them on our new Elwood SEPTA Facebook page.
We look forward to meeting you and hope you will join us.
