Elwood Middle School Performing Music Programs

There is a mandatory Full 7/8 Chorus rehearsal on Tuesday 5/7 and 5/14th.  The pianist will be there so please be on time. 
 
The 6th grade chorus will practice with the pianist on Tuesday 5/7 and 5/14 during first period.  There will be a full rehearsal for the first 10 minutes of lunch on Mondays and Fridays 5/6, 5/10 and 5/13.

To the members of the E.M.S. Performing Groups and their Parents:

It’s Spring Concert time again!  As in the Winter, the concerts will be split into two nights - one night for the 6th Grade Band, 6th Grade Chorus,  and the Jazz Band, the other night for the Orchestra, 7/8 Band, and 7/8 Chorus. The schedule is as follows:

Wednesday, May 15th- Gr. 6 Band, Gr. 6 Chorus and Jazz Band

Monday, May 20th– Orchestra, Gr. 7/8 Band, and 7/8 Chorus

All concerts begin at 7:00pm

Students should report to their groups as follows:

May 15th:    Gr. 6 Band – 6:30 pm in Rm. 108

 Gr. 6 Chorus – 6:30 pm in the Cafeteria

Jazz Band – 6:45 pm in Rm. 109

May 20th:  Orchestra - 6:20 pm in Rm. 109

 Gr. 7/8 Band – 6:30 pm in Rm. 108

  Gr. 7/8 Chorus – 6:45 pm in the Cafeteria

DRESS FOR THE CONCERTS:

Girls:  APPROPRIATE Dressy Spring Clothes

Boys:  Dress shirt, dress pants, tie

Jazz Band:  Black pants, Jazz Band T-shirts


 

NO mini skirts, skorts, shorts, low-cut or strapless tops, tops with spaghetti straps, Hawaiian shirts, cargo pants, jeans, flip-flops or sneakers.  Dresses/skirts should be knee-length or longer!

We request that all our guests arrive promptly and remain for the entire performance.  Please be respectful to our performers by being seated, attentive and quiet during the concert.  We look forward to seeing you at the concerts.

 

 

 


Sixth Grade General Music

Course Overview

 

The sixthgrade general music class will explore the following:

ü  Proper vocal techniques:  breath support,diction, phrasing and dynamics.

ü  Classical, folk, patriotic and popular songs: Listening and performing.

ü  Music Theory:  treble and bass clef, rhythms, dynamicmarkings and music vocabulary.

ü  Music History:  Middle Ages to present. 

ü  Computer Lab:  Theory and Ear training.

 

Required Materials

  Loose-leaf binder with paper and one folder.

 

 

Grading:

1)   Class work and participation.  30%

2)   Four theory tests and two open book history tests.  50%

3)   Notebook and folder checks. 10%

4)   Computer Lab work. 10%
