Starting the week of May 28th, all 8th grade classes will be in the computer lab working on digital portfolios.  The digital portfolio is your final exam for art.  All classroom projects that are not completed by then, need to be completed at extra help which is every morning at 7:30 am.

All digital portfolios are due by 3pm on Wednesday June 12th.  They should be saved as a WMV file and both your photostory file and the WMV file should be placed in the appropriate class folder in the Grady shared Spring 2013 folder.

June 10th, 11th and 12th passes will not be honored for extra help.  You must sign up on the list in Art E in order to come to extra help.

The 6th Graders are currently experiencing "a Taste of Australia", a wonderful program brought to us by Chris Pitkin, a talented Australian artist.  The students are taught about the culture, geography, animals, art and music of Australia and work with Aboriginal symbols to create dot paintings.  This program is sponsored by the PTA Arts in Education. Please take a look at the photos below!

Thank you to all for the holiday wishes, cards and goodies! I hope that the New Year will be filled with happiness, success and good health for all of my students and their families!

The Art Department has received a 2012 EEE grant for linoleum block printing.  Thank you Elwood Educational Endowment!

Extra Help is every morning at 7:30 am in Art Room E.  Students should see Mrs. Grady the day before for a pass.

Please hand in all late and missing homeworks as soon as possible...homework is 10% of your grade and has a significant effect on your quarter average.

Welcome to Art at Elwood Middle School!  Art at the middle school level is an exploratory adventure of the elements and principles of art and design.  Students at the 6th grade level will be introduced to many new materials, techniques and artists, and will use their knowledge of these to develop their creativity.  Our art curriculum also challenges students to develop their problem solving ability, their sense of responsibility, their ability to make connections across the curriculum and their sense of self.  Bi-weekly homework assignments reinforce art skills, reading skills and writing skills.

Students at the 8th grade level will review and build on previously learned elements and principles of art and design, and then use these skills to creatively problem solve at a more complex level 8th grade students will keep a record of their 8th grade art experience through digital photographs and at the end of the semester will create a digital portfolio that will count as the course final exam. Bi-weekly homework assignments reinforce art skills, reading skills and writing skills.

All students are expected to have access to a flash drive, to hand homework in on the date it is due, to come to each class fully prepared and to complete projects in a timely manner.

The Art Department received two EEE grants in 2011!  The EEE helped us add resources to our art library to help with cross curriculum connections.  They also funded new Crayola watercolors since the pigment quality of other brands is disappointing.  Thank you EEE!

The Art Department received an EEE grant in 2010 for additional books for our Art Library! This library has become an invaluable resource tool for the 8th grade Artist Brochure and Artist Relief Sculpture Tile projects, as well as the 7th grade Artist Presentation projects. Thank you EEE!
